Poor April

I feel so so bad for April. Being tied up like that for 3 or 4 DAYS. Can you imagine? With duct tape over her eyes and mouth. With loud death metal skipping on the stereo. I would kill him. I would probably have a heart attack. I'm so claustrophobic, and being confined like that would kill me. And not only that but what about when you have to pee? You’d have piss and sh*t all over you. She’d probably have post traumatic stress.

Ross is a psycho. Why would he do that? I don’t get his logic. It would only take him a couple seconds to untie her. Why doesn’t he? Is it cuz he wants her to be there when he gets back?
AND ALSO..
WHY THE DUCT TAPE ON THE EYES? I can see him taping the mouth the mouth, so she won’t scream, but the eyes??? That’s just cruel.

I love when Ross tells Nikki about it and she’s like “oh my god..I thought you were a normal guy!"

No one thought that was f-ed up?

reply

I so did! It freaked me out when it finally got to the sequence with her in it, it's like he seemed like a semi-normal guy with a habit, but after that, DAMN!

yeah!
Totally agree. I couldnt beleive it either, why wouldnt he just untie her???

I would've beat him to death for doing that!

Moral; never let a drugie tie you up. Actaully, never let anyone tie you up!!!

The second scene made me so angry on the character, ross really deserves some punishment for that. I hope it got it, but I'll never know since i stopped watching the film after that scene. Stupid, cruel and pointless violence is not my cup of tea. Stupid violence is all right, pointless violence too, but not in that combination without any point.

the 2nd time he plans on leaving her in the apartment was just so unwatchable. he's like "i gotta go again, please stay", then puts back the duct tape on her and hearing her scream was just painful. it was just pretty disturbing.

i never really got why Ross did that, he seemed to be the least sketchiest character, or at least wasn't a sketchy character that caused fights/riots/yelling+swearing, but hell... that was harsh.

reply

Maybe, he was afriad that April would walk out of his life the way Amy did. Although keeping her prisioner isn't exactly having her in his life.

Was April his girlfriend, or was she just screwing him to score?

When he goes to Spider Mike's in the beginning and is first introduced to Nikki, he tells her and Cookie that April is just a girl that he "hooks up with" and that he has a girlfriend in the city. haha

So does anyone know a real explination as to WHY he ties her up? I just think it's werid because they have hooked up before, but why does he choose to keep her chained to the bed NOW?

He doesn't want her to leave his life like his old girlfriend did, so tieing her up was symbollic of keeping her where he wants her.

Although, keeping her inprisoned probably isn't the best way to achieve that..
I guess a meth head doesn't really think conventionally.

reply

yeah, this was the most disturbing thing, really. he totally devalued her as a human being, and i think it was pure evil. i know he was high, butt hurt over amy, but that's really twisted and wrong. i know of people who have done that, and they are not good people at. i had no sympathy for the character, and wish he would have blown up in the end.

sick *beep*

if it takes *beep* to make bliss then i feel
pretty blissfully

reply

i totally agree; that was some very sick stuff that he did to her, and i feel no sympathy for ross whatsoever

reply

Yeah I disliked Ross for the rest of the movie when he did that to her.

reply

The first time was kind of ... interesting and stupid, in a "dark twisted humor" sort of way ... but when he did it again, and her horrifying reaction as he did it, I just totally hated him after that.
Perhaps that is the point. Meth makes you into a monster, if you stay up on it long enough.
But whenever I watch the movie I have to literally leave the room during that second bondage scene. It makes me sick.

The first time Ross comes back and begins to untie April, and she is justifiably furious, he tells her how lonely he has been. So his relationship with Amy has obviously left him with some issues regarding rejection/abandonment.

But more importantly I think leaving her tied-up is meant to demonstrate how the drugs have completely distorted his thought process. In his meth haze he just doesn't realize how screwed-up that is. Even if he had come right back from his errand and freed April it was still horrible, unforgivable behavior. But of course he gets delayed and then forgets about her, making matters far far worse. Another example of distorted thinking is when he believes that leaving the music on will somehow make it better. Perhaps that makes sense if you are on drugs. The drugs have fried his brain.

The Director is a fool to put that scene in - so dumb and un-called for. it just made me mad with that Ross dude - I was Like "that guy needs to die for what he done to April.

It ruined the movie for me and I was disturbed at why the writer would include this and worst yet is why the director let the writers get away with it?...it may give some people the wrong idea about their own personal conduct...Ross definitely earned a thorough "pounding out" for that stunt. And his uncle Francis Ford Coppola, should have suggested to the film maker to use something else instead of "Trash April Scenes"...

reply

Well we weren't supposed to love the Ross character or anything.. we were shown that this is the messed up stuff he's doing, nothing sugar coated - all or nothing. If you can't take the heat why are you watching a movie about meth heads?

He'd apparently already been up for a day or two when the movie started, and rarely if ever sleeps throughout the movie.. this kind of distorted thinking is not only the drugs and an innate psychosis, but also heavily spurred on from going days if not weeks at a time without sleep. He leaves her tied cuz he's afraid of being alone, and turns on the music in case she makes noise so that no one will find her.

..or at least I think so lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXVnoEAWNN4

There was about 10% of me that felt REALLY bad for her. I can't even imagine the horror. But then about 90% of me has trouble really feeling sorry for someone who uses meth in the first place, and who allows themselves to be tied up - especially by a one-night-stand. Stupid...

reply

someone said people on drugs "don't need logic" and clearly that's the case for the writer of the screenplay because there was no purpose to having him tie up april... was it to make jason's character unlikeable? because they could have done that in other ways.. just being up for 3 days isn't enough to do this kind of *beep* i've been up for 3 days and taken something but i didn't anyone up?? wtf. it was a bad way to portray the character. just horrible. and its lame people are excusing how unrealistic and lame the characters are who claim to have done the drugs... well i feel bad for you if you find this film to be relatable because it SUCKS. there are other "drug movies" that are more realistic.

reply

Pffft you're all overthinking it. Not wanting her to leave his life? Come on! The guy was on a speed binge, he just wanted to get back to what he was doing with her at that moment but got sidetracked. Twice. To someone on a binge like that a day feels like half an hour!

reply

I agree. If i found her like that, i'd comfort her soooo much before untying her
