Found DVD on Italian Ebay

I just ordered a copy from the italian ebay site http://www.ebay.it

I didn't order from this ebay shop in particular, but this one seller has the DVD, at the time of this posting, for sale at EUR 6,99 plus only EUR 6,99 shipping worldwide. That amounts to around US$20. Version is region 2, PAL, with only italian subtitles.

I thought some people may be interested in this alternative because I saw it was selling for $80 + shipping on Amazon market place.

Did you ever get it? Is it any good?

Italian movies seem to be like hens teeth! While in Italy I've seen many national films that I'd love to give to friends in DVD format but they never seem to be made available outside of Euroland.

Even the Italian movies they show on Alitalia flights across the Atlantic seem to be made of Unobtainium to us mere mortal on the opposite side of the Pond.

It's a real shame.

There was a time when Italian films were all the rage in America. The great Italian movie stars were as familiar to Americans as American stars were (Marcello Mastroianni, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Claudia Cardinale, Vittorio Gassman, and Ugo Tognazzi were all famous in the U.S. I personally loved Italian cinema and am sorry to see how it has fallen out of favor with distributors. Today I think that only Monica Belluci is famous here which is a shame (I love her) because there are every bit as many wonderful Italian stars as there have ever been.

You're right, it is a shame. If only people had an idea of what they're missing. I still remember seeing Italian films in major theater chains as a kid, and not just the Fellini's etc., but many memorable films nobody had ever heard of. Unfortunately films today are geared towards a young audience, which has little/no interest in anything except for cheesy horror movies and raunchy comedies. Another reason, I suspect anyway, for the lack of Italian releases in North America, is the idea that only dubbed films will sell and people won't watch anything with subtitles. Dubbing destroys movies, all the nuances feeling is bled away.
Indeed, a real shame.

Yes, it's a quite enjoyable film. I had already seen it via p2p, but I wanted a copy of the film on DVD and was also looking forward to seeing the extras.

Unfortunately the postal service where I live is unreliable and the package went missing in my country, not Italy from where it was sent.

The seller was helpful, sent a tracking number so I was able to follow the package to my country, saw that it cleared customs, went to a transit point and then disappeared. The process involved in claiming a lost package was such that it would have cost more in gasoline and telephone calls than what it was worth. :(

But try to see the film if you get the chance. It may not be Fellini, but it's still a fun, light-hearted film, which will especially appeal to anyone who has ever struggled with a foreign language or culture while spending time in a foreign country.
