My girlfriend noticed something interesting about the stew...

Was it made from human flesh? The woman didn't want the soldiers to eat it, the one who ate it mentioned that it tastes like pork (which reputedly is what human flesh tastes like) and he threw up soon after. There were also human corpses hanging in the basement like preserved meat.

I noticed that, as well: then I became sidetracked by something else occurring and forgot about it!
Doesn't it get explained near the end?

I've also noticed that Private Cooper says to Captain Ryan: "Sit. Stay" like you would to a do when commanding a dog.
I love these little irony bombs that you don't tend to notice upon the first viewing!

Your girlfriend just listened to the audio commentary. She's no genius.

"What is that thing you're using?"..... "It's technical."

I think I remember seeing something about the stew, don't remember if it was a relative I watched it with or on IMDb but just watching the movie I always got this unsettling vibe from the house and the stew in particular, like there was something wrong with it. Probably from the way the house looks like someone's living in it yet it's abandoned yet there's stew cooking yet the only other things running around are werewolves (spoilers, the werewolves own the house).

It probably is made of human meat, considering there's the bodies in the basement that appear to be stored like a meat locker while there's bones in the upstairs closet that look like they've been picked clean. Perhaps when the werewolves are in their human forms they still desire human flesh and like to keep some bodies around just for that odd hankering for some human?

I'd never noticed the guy mentioning it tastes like pork and making the connection to how supposedly human flesh tastes like pork; clever filmmaking.

Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
