For those of you unhappy with the video and audio quality of First Look's Blu-ray edition of "Dog Soldiers" released back in 2009, Shout Factory will be releasing a second Blu-ray edition on June 23, 2015. No guarantee Shout's version will be any better or different than First Look's, but at least there's a chance it will be.

shareI got about 20 minutes into the Scream disc and couldn't take the god awful quality, so I popped in the First Look Blu-ray. It's worth it for the special features but the video quality is definitely a step-down.
sharei just want to know how in the world scream factory and neil marshall even bothered to release such a horrible transfer of the film in the first place.
how can marshall approve this transfer, i know what happened w the negative but man. this PQ is just atrocious. By far the worst bluray I've ever seen i think.

Can they even clean it up anymore anyway? I saw the movie when it was shown in theatres in L.A. back in 2002 and I remember it looked exactly like this. Personally I think the graininess adds to the remote feel, and audio quality is much better than I recall. Just my thought. Still a great film.

Still a great film yes, i will say the audio quality is excellent on the disc.
Yes, dog soldiers never exactly looked like it was shot on sparkling new film w a sparkling new camera, but when scream blew that 16mm neg up it saturated all the colors horribly, and the grain is pretty much unbearable. Theres such thing as good grain and bad, this is in the terrible territory. The grain almost blurs the pq in some shots. Not sure if the neg they were working w was so bad that it just wasn't worth it?
The colors are very, very off.
Plus theres a bunch of dirt and scratches that were never removed or cleaned up.
Basically my point is that the older dvd release looks better than this bluray.
I still love scream factory, but this release should of just been scrapped. Even the Bonus Features are pretty boring.
I guess they redeemed themselves w dog soldiers by releasing possibly my fav and most underrated werewolf movie in a non collectors ed but w more bonus features and a dc cut.
