I have to say the classic by Gary Cooper & Jean Arthur is a lot better than this reboot.

Its not up for discussion at all. I think also a missed opportunity for the remake was that in the original Gary Cooper gave his fortune to the poor and desperate people, namely the farmers that was hit hard in the depression. Even though it was not set in the depression there were still quite a few homeless people out there especially New York and Sandler could've fit that subplot in his own way to REALLY give the character the extra emotional oomph that he needed for the audience.
