This movie is...
One of the most under-rated films... ever.

I agree tragic. This movie was superbly well done. Some people see this as a really liberal movie but I completely disagree (and I'm a conservative). It shows both sides. No one is made to look perfect. Politics aside, Kurt Russell does a fantastic job and the style of the movie is very intriguing to me. Ving Rhames also does a bang-up job. The only weak cast was Vanessa Williams, who never does a good job and is always stoic and weak. For some reason this movie did not even come close to getting the recognition it so rightly deserved.

Nice, I totally agree this is a great movie. I can't understand it didn't get the recognition it deserved. I think its better than training day. Anyone agree?
shareBasically it doesn't get much credit because it isn't better than Training Day, the story is very similar with only two major differences. 1) Russell sees the error of his ways. 2) The rookie with him actually dies.
Had it come out before Training Day, it would have been given more credit as a quality film. Like "Stir of Echoes" being ignored because of "The Sixth Sense".
Um, that's not Vanessa Williams. It's Michael Michele. She played a doctor on ER who dated Dr. Peter Benton.
shareVanessa Williams is not in this movie; neither is Vanessa L. Williams - to whom I assume you were referring. Between the two Black actresses in this movie (Khandi Alexander and Michael Michele), if my guess of Vanessa L. Williams was correct, then I will make a secondary assumption that you were referring to Michael Michele (Khandi Alexandar could not conceivably be confused for Vanessa Williams, but then I did not think that anyone could mistake Michael Michele and Vanessa L. Williams either).
shareI agree with the first poster. It's truly a great movie. I like its gritty, realistic feel... And Kurt is superb in his role!
At least it's not just another manichean superhero-cop story, "à la Die Hard", but a much more complex police drama. Nothing is all black or all white...
Remember the King!
I believe it is a wonderful movie. With a wonderful script, better than Training Day (at least for me). Maybe the director haven't done such a job to make it better than training day, but I feel sorry that not too many people know about this movie, coz... I love it :-))
And Kurt Russell is sooo sexy! :-)
