Scott Speedman woefully bad in this movie

Scott Speedman was badly miscast and badly directed in this movie. He's supposed to be with the elite SIS, so he would've seen some bad stuff already. But he freaks out like a little girl at a homicide scene that isn't even gruesome, and then he's tapping his fingers all over the place, on surfaces and tables. Maybe the actor thought this "looking nervous" finger-tapping was some kind of method-wonderful idea, but no real cop would ever do that -- corrupt a crime scene while deliberately tapping his fingerprints all over everything. Speedman also should've gone out on some ride-alongs with real cops and seen how they carried themselves. He charges into dangerous scenes like a lumbering kid at the mall leaving himself completely exposed, not like a cop, who would be careful and watch his back. Totally bad acting and bad casting.

I thought he wasn't good in this. Even E. Hawke was better in TD. But of course Ray Liotta and Jason Patric were amazing in Narc.

I suppose the fact that Scott Speedman's character didn't seem professional or experienced enough to be part of SIS could be explained by his uncle being so high ranking in the LAPD and a network of corrupt bosses who wanted him in their little club. But yeah, Speedman- whilst not "Woefully bad"- just can't keep up with Kurt Russell in this film. As with Gangs Of New York around the same time, it was another case of an overrated pretty boy being totally shown up by a criminally underrated master.

I just finished watching Dark Blue, and I also felt that Speedman was mis-cast. In fact there were others mis-cast also. Russell carried this poor film.

Scott Speedman is wofully bad in everything he's done! He just doesn't have that spark that makes a really good actor. He's awkward and lifeless, and totally without charisma.

I really was pleased when he was 'apparently' killed off in Underworld Evolution. I was so peeved off when he miraculously came back to life :(

reply

Wow.. I thought he did really well.

reply

Some of his reactionary moments are really good. I can see why some thought some of his line deliveries weren't so great. I thought he did a good job.

reply

That's true, he practically ruined the film. He is lifeless, looks like a boy out of cr@ppy romantic comedy. I'm curious, do women actually find this wimpy wimp/nerdi nerd attractive? (Same as the women in the movie? haha) Something must be wrong in his character characterization.

Yeah Kurt made this movie as good as it was

Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor.

the script really didn't give Scott Speedman much to work with.

Agreed.

Yeah he was terrible. Supposed to be coming apart at the corruption he was getting involved in but came across more like a student fretting about getting caught at cheating his exams. He was a real weak link in the film, Russell deserved a better actor alongside him considering the stellar performance he provided.
