were the riots like in the movie?

I remember as a very young child reading about the King case but I didn't know the after effect was so atrocious. There was a story in the news about a truck driver happen to be in the wrong neighbourhood and got killed but now I read on this board there died 55 people? Just because they were white and at the wrong place at the wrong time?
Who was held responsible? Did the president step down? The scene with the mob on the streets was so frightening!

That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullsh*t

The riots were toned down for the movie. They were way worse in reality. The President didn't step down neither did the mayor. Then OJ happened and people feared the riots would resume.

Thanks, are there more movies about this events? Sounds like Hotel Rwanda goes USA...

For the record, there were more than 2 years between the LA riots and the OJ Simpson murders. I'm not sure how you're connecting the events.

Wait... What??? Race Relations were hardly any better by the time of the OJ Trial. People were once again choosing sides based on Race and tensions were HIGH. Difference being that when OJ beat the case, White People didn't Riot. King was beaten senselessly. I think every Cop should've been charged and it's no surprise that Minorities felt a certain way... But the tension carried over and people wanted OJ to be innocent simply because of Race, basically to even out the King case. It's backwards ass logic. Right or wrong. There's no excuse for the beatings and murders that took place.

So YES, there's a very SIMPLE AND OBVIOUS Connection.

Some of the footage used was from the actual riots.

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe

The riots were wild. The Marines were called in. There is an interesting anecdote in regards.
LAPD and Marines intervened in a domestic dispute in Compton, in which the suspect held his wife and children hostage. As the officers approached, the suspect fired two shotgun rounds through the door, injuring some of the officers. One of the officers yelled to the Marines, "Cover me," as per law enforcement training to be prepared to fire upon if necessary. However, per their military training, the Marines understood the wording as providing cover while utilizing firepower, resulting in a total of 200 rounds being sprayed into the house. Remarkably, neither the suspect nor the woman and children inside the house were harmed.
