Where was Hancock?

Hancock was a major character in the book, but was completely written out of the movie (including the director's cut). Gettysburg was a much better film because it stayed true to it's source material. I like Jeff Shaara but his dad was a much better author. This film could have been so much better, not to say it's bad, just disappointing. There aren't enough good Civil War movies.

They butchered the book, but I think that was because it wasn't historically accurate. The movie isn't the best, but it isn't completely bad.

In the theatrical version, Hancock was featured prominently in the Fredericksburg scenes. I don't know if he had additional material in the extended cut.
