Mitch seemed to act and think more like a psycho criminal than a classic abuser
I've always though that Mitch is worse than a classic abuser and here's why:
1. He waits 5 years to outright abuse Slim for the sole reason because he thought he could get away with his lying and cheating and wants her to tolerate whatever she doesn't like about his actions.
2. His methods of abuse seem to boil down largely to verbal threats and physical harm rather than emotional or clever manipulation to control her.
3. He is like an omniscient predator. Perhaps he can't make everything happen in the world, but he seems to have enough inside info (one would assume from any cop friends) not only for Slim, but her friends spending history as well. If that were the case, he would likely have to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of digging.
4. Then he pays people who appears to be affiliated in criminal activity to pose as officers to get them back.
5. He intimidates his cop buddy Robbie into helping him and never thinking of any sophisticated plans of getting his wife and kid back, which leads to him shoving Gracie to the floor and trying to kill her mom in front of her.
6. He talks about Slim vanishing right off the face of the earth, and that nobody will ever find her, implying that he wants to get away with murder and not look back.
Anybody who says it's not rare to be in an abusive relationship with someone who goes as far as Mitch has to be kidding, right?
