I don't care for Jennifer Lopez or Noah Wyle, although I did like the Sheryl Crow song at the beginning. But then she starts talking about having not read Finnegan's Wake, and I thought, this is just going to be crap.
An IMDB rating of 5.8 and I think I won't need to continue, but then I notice Amazon giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I watched this movie a dozen times as a kid. Watching a movie without the cold detachment of adulthood has its advantages
You watched the whole thing because it's a "good" domestic violence thriller. It paints the whole picture and has a satisfying payoff
Objectively, it sucks. But it's satisfying from start to finish. You get to know J-Lo's character, you see her meet the bad guy, you see her start a happy life with him. You see the breakdown of their marriage. You see the point at which she decides enough is "enough" (bad guy hits child). Then you see her initial attempts at becoming independent. Then as the movie progresses she develops into a badass
As shitty as the movie is, objectively, it is satisfying
Yes but very very unrealistic, I mean not many people have a rich Dad to fall back on.
Or have time and money to learn self defence, karate whatever it was.
Most people just go to the hearing and let the law decide.
