Jennifer discusses running away without the child??

I was just watching this movie again it was at the part where the bad policeman had followed Jennifer's ex or friend etc to her new location. They are lying in bed and I could of sworn she discussed giving the child back to the father and running away with her friend/ex.

She started saying it and he stopped her and said that No, Gracie is a great kid and a future without her wouldn't be an option (pretty much what he said). That part totally shocked me if I understood it correctly. She actually considered enough to bring up giving the child back and running off with her guy. I just couldn't believe it. I'm thinking I must have misunderstood that scene because if her character would have considered returning the young girl to the abusive father to run away with a boyfriend, its pretty disgusting and ruins the sympathy we had going for the character.

I know just because he beat his wife it doesn't mean he might beat his daughter, but even the chance of that happening should be enough that you would want to protect your daughter and keep her away from this man. Not to mention how could a mother feel okay giving up her young daughter just to run away with a lover! I'm really hoping I just misunderstood the dialog in that scene.

No, that is not even close to what she said/meant. She was contemplating what her life would have been like in the present if she and Joe stayed together, in the past, and were married now. And thats when he stopped her and said to not even think about it because that would mean Gracie wouldn't be alive now, and she is the one good thing that came from her marriage to Mitch.

Yeah she never said anything about leaving Gracie with Mitch. Like the other poster said, she just mentioned to her ex about how things might have been if they hadn't broken up and he had mentioned how she never would have had Gracie.
