than leaving in the middle of the night. Call the cops and at least he's gone for a few hours, giving you time to pack and leave without traumatizing the little girl. Leaving would piss him off anyway- at least if he's in jail, he's not beating you to a pulp when you try to escape in the middle of the night. Movies like this should be more realistic and less melodramatic...
He has money and would have bailed out right away, and got custody of Gracie, he would have made her look crazy or planted drugs on her. The judicial system is biased towards men still. Calling the cops would have made him more angry and he has too many connections the violence would have escalated, putting her in more danger. For some women calling the police and getting a domestic violence petition puts them in more danger.
Did you know see Mitch sitting around having "coffee time" at the police station and tracing calls with the crooked cop? He had inside connections with the police and an army of fake intelligence agents working for him. Furthermore, the entire reason for a melodrama is to include some melodramatic scenes.
Mitch had a lot of money, and he would have stalked her and killed her. Cops can only help so much. If all it took was cops, divorces, and custody hearings to deal with crazy abusive spouses there wouldn't need to be battered women's shelters.
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus." "Didn't he discover America?" "Penfold, shush."
He would've tried to stalk her and kill her, but that's not so easy to do when he has no idea where she is. She kept communicating with him and his idiotic mother, letting them know her whereabouts, when the safest thing to do was keep the daughter away from him. I know, as a parent, that's hard, but when it comes to the child's safety, unfortunately the option of maintaining a relationship with the abusive parent goes away...
I agree Misa_Malone, and she could have empty here bank account and credit cards too. He would have been left to do the things he did in the film, but at least she would have had some money. Also, since they were still married and there was NO custody agreement, she was NOT kidnapping her child and the cops would not have went after her for leaving town with her, especially since she had established abuse by the 'father'. Finally, her friends would not have been involved with her 'escape' in the husbands mind. Probably, other than harassing them to find his wife, they wouldn't have even entered his mind...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I must be gone and live, or stay and die...
Most women do that anyway- keep a stash of money their husbands don't know about. It's not right, but if your husband is violent and beats you, that's all the more reason to do it. She should've been saving money on the side the entire time. Wait until he's out of the home, go get your daughter and get the hell out of dodge...
