Why was he a danger to Gracie all of a sudden?

Ok we get it, he is cheating and he hit you twice and told you to accept it - you decide that you want out - fine. You all of a sudden act like he is a danger to your daughter driving like a maniac when he picks her up from school to take her to the zoo............. since when did he become an abusive father that you have to keep the child away from?

Because he was a psychopath. She knew if he was abusive to her, it was only a matter of time until he struck Gracie.
And judging by how he reacted when she tried to save her mother from HIS MURDER ATTEMPT...she was right.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

At that point in the film, I think it was more of a fear of him taking Gracie away from her.

If only closed minds came with closed mouths.

Yes this.
I love this movie because of this kid. She is so cute and precious.
Kids don't deserve dad like that because one day, they can become very violent and can beat them too or kill her mothers.

In the movie, her husband made clear with a psychological pressure that he has all the powers even on Gracie.
So if she wants to leave, she leaves without Gracie or stay and assume that it's him who has all the powers.

Sorry, i'm French...

Many times, if a man is abusing their wife and the wife leaves, the man will move on to abusing their children. They like being able to wield power over someone. Seriously, if you knew the father of your child had no qualms about beating you would you REALLY feel comfortable leaving your child with him?? His moral compass obviously doesn't point north.

Because he basically said he'd make it so she never saw her child again. He said he'd plant drugs on her, get full custody, etc. He wasn't willing to "allow" her to leave him.

Exactly. And those kinds of threats DO scare people into doing whatever their abuser says. She had a legitimate concern that he'd find a way to never let her see her child again. And with his wealth and the way she perceived him as being able to get whatever he wants, there's really no telling how far he could've taken it. I've know 2 people that have been threatened in the same way. One woman lost the right to see her children. Another man spent years trying to figure out how to get out of his marriage to a woman that smack and hit him because she would hit herself, cause bruises and then say she was going to the police saying SHE was abused by him.

The world is a twisted place. Slim had legitimate concern that she would be able to keep her from her child. And wasn't his creepy friend in law enforcement or something? Multiple friends. Even the mother warned her about his "friends" in the police department.

"Dwight, you ignorant slut!"
