Do wife beaters hold their pets? What about their children?

I was just wondering... because when you think of the psychology behind men who beat their wives, can these types of people really love and care for, without harming, a defenseless, helpless little animal? I can imagine there would be very few instances where a man like this would be caught cuddling a little puppy or a child. What are your thoughts on this?

wow this is very true. thanks for such a helpful reply... especially the part of a little animal wouldn't confront you... that really made me think.. i hadn't thought of that. I think in general though, abusers tend to not like pets. It's probably the exception when you see a wife beating scum happily cuddling a poodle.

not always. i know of someone who killed their wife's pets. that is a form of control. she should have left from the start. right when they moved in, he started disciplining her cat. again, that is a form of control. he always said he was trying to be helpful, but other things began to happen. he never mistreated the pets in front of the wife amongst others, but sometimes he would threaten that he would kill her cat just because he said "i can." i think she was delusional about the relationship and wanted to stay because they were having a child together, and was affected by her parents' divorce. it is never okay to stay in a relationship of abuse of any kind based on past experiences. get help and stay the f away the minute you see red flags. even if they hold their pets and children.

I can't speak for other men, but I beat my wife regularly yet the sight of my pet baby ducks just melts my heart!

It's hard to compete with the cuteness of baby ducks, what how about now that they're grown?

reply

Well my dad was abusive to my mom, but he was a sucker for me and for our cats. So there's that.
