At one point midway through the movie Mitch & Robbie are talking in a police station about Slim 'kidnapping' Gracie. Robbie says something about a bet, but that "you weren't supposed to marry her," what was the bet??

Unless it was... how Mitch & Slim & Robbie all met @ the beginning of the movie, in the diner, with the rose...?

Yeah, it was probably just 'I bet you can't nail that hot waitress' or something equally gross.
