Why is this so harshly criticized?

I saw this movie about 10 years ago and I was on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. I watched it again this morning, and though I know what happens in the end, I still felt drawn in to the suspense. I think it was well-cast and everyone did a great job, especially Billy Campbell (Mitch). I don't know why this doesn't get better reviews.

The plot was pretty nonsensical to me watching it more than a decade later. I remembered being gripped by this movie the first time I watched it but that was probably because I was a pre-pubescent kid at the time who found anything entertaining. That's not to say that I wasn't gripped by it now. Just that it started out pretty good and eventually went downhill from there. I mean, come on, that ending was lame. Also, it was pretty unbelievable that someone like Mitch was able to get away from almost murdering his family one time too many without getting caught just because of his few connections within the PD. There just wasn't any depth to that character and I didn't like it.

Because people are annoying acting as if every movie has to be Oscar worthy.

I liked it, it was almost like watching Sleeping With The Enemy. I was on the edge of my seat watching this movie also.

After I saw this I was on the edge of something too... a ledge 32 stories above the ground, perfectly content to end my life because I knew that was it, that was the end of cinema as I knew it, and that if someone shelled out millions of dollars to produce this unfathomable piece of dog *beep* that there was truly no hope for humanity and life was no longer worth living.

reply

Because it is about a sensitive subject that should not be taken lightly. The plot was ridiculous.
