Not bad at all

I saw this film in the cinema a few years ago as part of a history class, and to be honest I didn't really like it. I knew everything that was going to happen, having studied the history of the Kelly gang, and I thought that the whole thing seemed pretty boring and contrived. But I recently purchased it as part of my "buy all of Naomi Watts' movies" run (I'm aware of how trivial, shallow and rather stupid that is) and I must admit that I actually liked it a lot. It's amazing how much a little crush will make you pay attention. When I viewed it as a film, instead of critiquing it as a portrayal of Ned Kelly's life, I found it to be very entertaining, moving and rewarding. Acting performances all splendid (so many Australians!, I felt right at home) great music score, even if it was a little obvious in some scenes. Oh, and that line at the end, where Kelly is talking about the sash he received as a boy, and he says, "proof that I have saved a life as well". I thought this was a great delivery by Ledger. So all in all, I'm glad I bought it.

I'm the same way (not the Naomi Watts thing, but with this film). The first time I watched it I was living in Australian (In Melbourne, to be exact) and I thought it was OK. However, I got home and watchd it again when it was released here (in Vancouver) and I really enjoyed it. Maybe I was getting nostalgic for Victoria, but I liked it a lot more, maybe it's just a movie you need to watch a few times.

For some reason, Heath Ledger's narration really stood out for me the second time. I didn't even notice it the first time.
