Suitable for Teaching Resource?

Hi, I'm an Aussie teacher, haven't watched this film, and have heard that it is not exactly 'factual' (which is not a problem, can always compare it to fact) but in regards to entertainment value for teenagers (13-17 year olds), does anyone have an opinion. Don't mind if young or old reply, just looking for different opinions, ie. if you were studying history would you be interested in watching this film?

Thanks for the help!

Well it was on tv tonight, so you could/should (Maybe did) watch it.

Depending on the age of your classmembers.. (15-17 should be fine) but probably not 13-14.

I mean im sure theyd like it, but you might get complaints from uptight parents.

Its a good piece of cinema, dramatised as all good movies usually are.

Id reccommend it.

I'm fifteen. The movie wasn't anything I could not handle. Only a little suggestive, but not gratuitous. There is small animal violence to a horse when they must eat it to survive. I'd tell people to look away at that even thought you don't see it.

It may not be the correct information about what went on, but I can attest to the mood set was on the mark. It was very interesting.

But you should watch it before showing a class to decide on your own conclusions. And of the DVD, there are pictures of the actual Kelly Gang.

Hope I helped.

They actually aren't eating the horse they slit its throat to drink its blood. A necessary survival tactic because there was no water available. My class is currently doing an analytical exposistion on this movie and my teacher is emphasising the stark contrast between this movie and what really happened in Ned Kelly's life. Its an interesting topic.

Hi anthro_gal, I'm from Australia too. My dad is an english teacher at my school and he uses this movie every year in one of his classes, he says that all the students enjoy it and that it provides plenty of things to work on after you've watched it. so all in all it is a good resource for teachers.

Yes, I'd recommend it for a history class/lesson. Even if it's, as you say, not entierly 'factual' it's still a good movie. Personally I always find it more interesting to study history if I've seen a movie about it... haha, maybe I'm shallow, but I think it's easier to relate that way. :)
