Stupid?

I was told by a bunch of people that this was the stupidest movie, and had no point. Is this true?

This movie is soo strong and amazing. Definately has a point!

Jack: Stand up.
Sawyer: Why? You wanna see who's taller?

reply

What would you mean by, "had no point". If this movie and this mans story 'has no point' in your friends eyes then I would have you turn your eyes to every single movie produced by hollywood. If your friends cannot see the point of telling the story of a great Australian then I suggest you shoot them and then turn the weapon on yourself.

Ned Kelly was NOT a Great Australian, he was a thieving, murdering Bastard

All I can say is you are probably a boring conformist. Please tell me just a little bit of the romantic in you sees Ned Kelly as a hero of sorts?

reply

He's as much a hero as anyone who murders three policemen in the course of their duty. If he's a hero so is every terrorist in the world

reply

It's not like I'm saying he deserves a medal of honor of anything! but he stood up for what he thought was right and he did something about it and that is what matters in the long run!

Jack: Stand up.
Sawyer: Why? You wanna see who's taller?

reply

Thats the same arguement every terrorist and murderer has used since time began

A Murderer or Terrorist is not a HERO in any shape or form EVER

So if a pervert thinks shafting 9 year old little boys is right, should he stand up for it and start blowing holes in the people who oppose him?

In my opinion, a great film, not mind-blowing cinema, but definitely worth watching. I think Aussies would get more out of it though, especially if you are familiar with the history and the background story.

It's a Geoffrey Rush thing, you wouldn't understand!

I loved the movie. Ned Kelley is to Australia what Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday are to us Americans...a legend. All actors were wonderful (even Heath Ledger whom I generally dislike, gotta give him his props) and the directing was great. It was a breath of fresh air to see a movie without American actors...Australia is the new Hollywood. I really enjoyed it and I felt really sad at the end...

Chrometanned how the hell is Ned Kelly any thing like Wyatt Earp. Earp became a sherrif right before he killed the clanton bros. they where caring weapons at a time when you couldnt, also they *beep* killed his brother, Second nobody knows who fired first, some say they just walked up there shooting, others say one of the clanton bros pulled there sidearm. Ned Kelly is nothing like Wyatt Earp. Wyatt Earp was a *beep* decorated Sheriff for christ sakes, you should be *beep* embarrassed.

Ned kelly was an aussie hero he stood up for the irish and did'nt let anyone get in his way . If u were him and cops picked on your family what would u have done hmmm.

reply

how can a movie about a real life story be 'stupid'? whoever told you it is stupid is a *beep* and obviously knows nothing about Australian history.

reply

Terrorist? I guess it depends on what version of history you read.

In some tellings of the story, constable Fitzpatrick lies and says that Ned shot him (Ned was far away at the time). So the police terrorize his family and arrest his mother (and her new baby!) just because they can't find Ned.

Then some police officers spread the word that they intended to kill Ned on sight (not just arrest him) for the reward money, despite the fact that they knew he was innocent. If that happened to you, would you surrender, or defend yourself? Ned defended himself and killed the officers (in this version of the story) only when he had no other choice because they were shooting at him.

Then, the police can't catch him so they lock up over 100 other people just because they know him, preventing them from harvesting their crops, thereby attempting to starve their families. The Kelly gang robbed the two banks so that they could use the money to try to save all of the people that the corrupt police were trying to harm. They also secretly worked the farms and harvested the crops of those who were arrested so that their families would survive.

I prefer this version of the story because it appeals to my distrust of authority, but I'm not saying that this is what actually happened. I'm just saying that any story can be spun. Any character can be portrayed as a hero or a terrorist depending on which way you look at it, and who you decide to sympathize with. Shooting corrupt cops who are trying to kill you for money does not make you a terrorist. Defending families that corrupt cops are trying to starve does not make you a terrorist. Deciding who is and who isn't a terrorist is rarely that black and white, even today.

You're a recent immigrant I take it? Feeling disenfranchised with your new found minority status? Wanting to take out your feelings of not being wanted by harrassing the memory of a Great Australian? Grow up.

reply

Oh my, you are so cynical its cool. You're so...modern!. Wake up to yourself you wannabe muppet.

reply

Says you, you try hard cynical wanker. I bet you always feel the need to oppose the majority view because it makes you feel alternative and educated.

Just wanted to say, I completely agree with this point.

"If your friends cannot see the point of telling the story of a great Australian then I suggest you shoot them and then turn the weapon on yourself."

Not quite so much, this point.

Ned Kelly is an absolute legend for standing up against the injustice put upon him by the police and the squatters. It was a corrupt time in Victoria and the police picked on his family right from the start.

What would you have done?

I liked the movie. Give it a try. Just as you can see Jesse James in two different lights so can you see Ned Kelly. You don't have to get deep into the politics of this movie to enjoy it.

reply

they arrested members of the kelly family and friends whether they did break the law or not.
