I just brought this game for the PC but I'm not sure if my computer is powerful enough to play it.
I have never really played these types of games on my computer before other than Super Mario 1,2,3 etc so I'm not sure if my comp needs boosting up with a more powerful graphics card.
When I start the game it will load with the long bar across the bottom of the screen and then there is a screen shot of all the characters 8-Ball etc and then it freezes on that screen and I have to restart my computer.
I have the game on PS2 but I really brought the PC game for the mods.
Under Win98, it's displayed in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System. The "General" tab shows processor speed and installed RAM. I imagine other Win OS's have similar steps.
In the same dialogue box, the device manager should display what type of card you are using when expanding the "display adapters" field...or clicking on the display icon in the control panel folder itself. Alternately, you can right-click any empty spot on the screen to call up the display settings to find out.
Failing that... You most likely have a display options icon sitting in the lower-right of the display bar (the utility tray). You could right-click that as well to find out adapter info.
Incidentally, the DirectX configuration menu should show you all of the above info in addition to the version of DX your system is using. To call it, click Start and then Run... and type in dxdiag.
It sure seems like the only way to deal with the card is to replace it with something more suited to gaming...which could be a problem if your system doesn't even have a PCI or AGP slot to use (or has a very low-end power supply). Given how old the game is, you should be able to find something pretty cheap that has no compatability issues.
At least it looks that way.
At the very least, updating DX to 9.0c might be a good idea (the latest version of DX9). It's free...and there might have been something that was missed in 9.0b.
Edit: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-010470.htm That page shows GTA3 as being fully-compatable with your card. So it's starting to lean toward a driver issue. If the DX update doesn't work, check your display adapter software version vs. the current version downloadable from Intel (right-clicking the system tray icon should have an "about..." dialogue box to look at).
