What was with the Melissa Joan Hart cameo?

What was with her popping up just to explain the rules of a slow clap? Was it just supposed to be super random, or is there a reference here that's going right over my head?

Just another teen star making a cameo. Molly Ringwald shows up at the end, for example. Paul Gleason also makes a cameo not because he was a teen star, but because of his involvement in the famous teen movie "The Breakfast Club".

A lot of teen movies from the 80's had a big reveal scene at the end in front of a crowd. There was one token guy who clapped slowly until others joined in.

You have to remember that Melissa Joan Hart was popular in the late nineties and early last decade thanks to her character Sabrina. Very popular.
So as she was a very popular actress she had a cameo in this film.

She was also in "Can't Hardly Wait", which was one of the many movies this movie is making fun of.
