How come the liberal media is anti-rights for the mentally challenged?

I do not understand why the liberal media is anti-rights for the mentally challenged, as evidenced for example by almost all the professional reviews of this film.

However, they are totally for rights for everything else, or so they claim, like "gay rights" etc.

If Sam was gay in this movie then it certainly would have got universal critical acclaim from the liberal media, no question about it.

So what's the deal with that?

I guess I'm asking this to liberals who read this board. Why are you for "gay rights" and all that yet against rights for the mentally challenged?

Supplementary question: don't you find your own contradictory position about this to be hypocritical?

Critics didn't like it because it was so contrived. It tried so hard to make you cry at every opportunity that in the end it all seemed forced.

Where and how do you come to this conclusion? I'm a liberal who supports equal rights for gays, women, disabled, white men, right-wingers, etc. Just because some professional liberal critics didn't like this movie, that doesn't mean they are against equal rights for those with disabilities. Did they actually say that in their reviews? There's a big difference between critical analysis of a movie and political positions.
