Sam's wall of Origami Cranes

When Rita breaks into Sam's apartment, she finds him holed up behind a wall of Origami figures. Not sure about you but this part went completely over my head. Then I learned about the "Thousand Origami Cranes"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_origami_cranes

It's an ancient Japanese legend that states if someone folds a senbazuru — an arrangement of a thousand origami cranes tied together — a crane will come to them and grant them a single wish. Makes perfect sense now.

I read "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" when I was ten and recall the myth of which you're speaking, but even I didn't attribute it to Sam's cranes.

First of all, it's not a wall of cranes. It's some flower that I forget, but I used to make as origami. I think it's more likely that Sam made that wall to "hole himself up," and he likes repetition, so it probably was easy for him to spend the time making all of them.

He does have quite a collection of cranes in his place too, but I doubt they're related to that myth.

I thought they were diamonds. As in "Lucy in the sky with diamonds".

I think you're right! I'd have to see again, but when Sam was in the process of making them, they looked like paper diamonds a friend of mine would make when we were kids. Until they're put together, they resemble a flower. Seeing as it would be for "Lucy in the Sky," that makes even more sense.
