Zack Snyder to direct Justice League movie

Though its been longtime speculated and hinted at, Greg Silverman, the president of production at Warner Bros. has confirmed today via The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy that a Justice League movie is definitely in the pipeline and it will follow Zack Snyder's still untitled Man of Steel sequel. “It will be a further expansion of this universe,” he said. “’Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’” That's not all. Silverman says that the script for Justice League is still in development and there is no release date set (likely after 2018), but Zack Snyder will return to direct the superero ensemble film with Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot among others expected to reprise their Batman vs. Superman roles. Greg Silverman kept mum on exactly which heroes will join the trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but the recent casting of Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and rumors of the Flash, Nightwing, and Aquaman appearing could be a clue. As for Gadot flying solo as Princess Diana in a Wonder Woman movie, Warner Bros. sadly have no plans for that, but are open to the possibilty. “That is our hope,” said the president of marketing Sue Kroll. “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.” Anyhow, other DC Comics properties that are heading to the big-screen, though not connected to the developing Justice League universe, include Shazam, Metal Men, 100 Bullets, and Fables. What do you think?

I'm disappointed, I was hoping Warner Bros. would begin to branch out on different directors but instead it seems like Zack Snyder is the only director they seem to want to handle the DC Cinematic Universe( Not counting Shazam or Metal Men, which is bullsh!t really because they deserve to be apart of the universe as well). Sure, he did Man of Steel and is currently doing Batman Vs. Superman, but seriously just let him stick with Superman, he can't adapt every single DC character. This is why I lean towards Marvel than Warner Bros. more with their movies, they choose different directors for different properties and take risks with them. They could have handed The Avengers over to Jon Favreau( Who was a risky pick to make Iron Man also) or Louis Leterrier but they gave it to Joss Whedon, who proved to be the best choice and delivered a marvelous film. I'll still give the film a chance though.

There's almost no way this movie can possibly be good. I'm not a fan of Zach Snyder anyway, but this story and these characters are way beyond his capacity. Man of Steel was garbage, so barring some kind of miracle I'm confident that everything in this series will be similarly terrible.

I agree with you. I didn't hate Man of Steel but the movie still had a number of problems, some of which are pretty hard to overlook. Snyder's whole "realistic" approach with his camera work didn't help either( Way too many zoom-ins and shaky cam) neither did his attempts to make Superman more "edgy" for today's audiences. I guess I can live with it being the "jumpstart" to the DC Cinematic Universe but I'd hate to see every forthcoming DC film follow the same approach. I'm all for taking the material seriously but if you take out some of the more fantastical elements and the trademark humor that comes with some character you're just asking to alienate fans and movie goers. This is why, as far as movies are concerned, I tend to lean towards Marvel more. In most cases they're able to find the right balance between humor and grit and try to give their characters faithful iterations on screen without trying to pander to anyone in particular. This is why we're getting a movie about a talking raccoon and walking tree in outer space this summer while Warner Bros. still has yet to make a Wonder Woman movie( which they might if BvS is successful enough to warrant it, otherwise she'll be a supporting character in it and JL).

As it is Snyder is not a strong enough story teller to handle all these characters, and by the time the film is made he'll probably already be creatively spent.

I have to wonder though why didn't Warner Bros. sign on Ben Affleck to direct? Before Affleck ever accepted the role of Batman in Batman Vs Superman he was offered the opportunity to helm Justice League in addition to playing an integral character in the DC universe.
