I wouldn't say Superman was weak

Some thread here say that they made Superman weak and I don't think that's the case.

I'm rewatching the show (it's been a while since I saw it) and I'd say that they just made him kind of dumb when it comes to him the powers. Many times you make yourself wonder "why didn't he use that or he would've avoided it if he just..." etc.

I get it why they did it, it would all be over so quickly since he's, well, Superman but it still makes him kind of dumb.

For example, the War World episode. There are scenes where he's being chased by robots and he doesn't use his heat vision at all, he'd take care of them with no problem if he did that (he only uses heat vision once in that episode and it's just to melt one small axe).

There are also many times where he could've used his super speed to avoid a punch or something or even his super breath, but those powers seem to be greatly underused in episodes I'm watching atm.

Like I said, I get it why they did it, but I think they should've think of some better scenarios because half of the time it just makes him seem like a dumbass for not using a specific power.

I'd say the Flash suffers from a similar problem. He's super fast but villains always manage to take him down (hell, sometimes it isn't even the villains). I get it why they did it, but again, he gets taken down in silliest ways.

For example, in the episode with Hades there's a scene where a sorcerer Faust uses his magic ray to destroy the ground so bunch of rocks are sticking out now. He shoots the ray clockwise and Flash was running towards him. Not only would Flash see well in advance what he was doing but he could've easily jumped over those rocks. Instead, he simply trips over them...he trips.

That's it.

I think there's also an episode where he gets taken out by a small rock that hits him in the face.

Come on, Flash.

I don't mind that he gets hit etc. my problem is that they couldn't think of more dignifed ways to do it? He looks like an even bigger dumbass than Superman.

The ones who say that are probably basing their statement on what Superman was like pre-Crisis and on the Super Friends TV show. Before the Crisis in the mid-80s, there wasn't much he couldn't do; we saw him travel through time merely by flying fast, stop the Earth in its orbit by ramming into it repeatedly, and have a completely empty medicine cabinet because he was completely invulnerable to everything except Kryptonite (and magic, and red sun radiation, and...but I digress).

When DC did their sorta-kinda-reboot after Crisis, Superman and Flash both took major hits in their power level (while Wonder Woman was ramped up). Now, Superman was basically on the same level as the Hulk when it came to strength and invulnerability--still vast, but within a believable limit.

By the time Superman: TAS and Justice League came around, the limited Superman had been around in the comics for about 10-15 years, so that was the version they used.

This is undoubtably true but at the same time the show still manages to make him extremely vulnerable. I'll go as far as saying that they've made him as vulnerable as the rest of the team. You really don't see a differential in damage when say, Green Lantern is hit unless the writers want to comedically emphasize Superman's power against someone far weaker than himself.

I also agree with the OP in the fact that Superman could be a little more cerebral with his abilities. Heat vision seems to be his go-to move while most of the others (super-speed, freeze-breath, etc.) are greatly underutilized unless the plot requires them; finding Joker's bombs across Vegas being one example. I may be wrong and it's definitely been a while since watching the series but I feel like he was a lot more versatile in TAS.

He did all that cutting loose on Darkseid, just for the fight to end up right back where it started. That's how you know they made him too weak.

It's not because Superman's weak. It's because Darkseid is stronger than ever.

Let's be bad guys.
