Confused about Kitty's reaction...

I watched that scene w/ her and Julianne Moore and rewound it, just to see HOW Kitty felt about that kiss. I really couldn't read what Toni Colette was trying to portray. After the kiss she said: "You're so sweet", she seemed "into" the kiss, didn't pull away. Why not? Kitty seemed really repressed also, for different reasons.

So did she realize she liked it? Did she just think J Moore was being "nice" and was very naive? I can't say I understood Kitty's thoughts about it.

Anyone explain?

Thanks.

I'm not sure I can explain very well, or even understand it very well, but I thought that Kitty felt totally out of her element--she always needing to be in control. That was a moment that took her totally by surprise, and it did seem to comfort her briefly, then she remembered all of her "regular" type situations in which she felt totally comfortable, and backed away and put her traditional socially confident mask back on. Just a guess, but the acting was fantastic all around!

My take on it was that she was into it, but social norms dictated that lesbian relationships were a big no-no so she played it off as though her friend was just being kind.

Kitty's reaction was one of the movie's surprises, she turned her face up to receive, received it and savored it. Kitty was dressed to display her assets and impress. She seemed more sexually assured than Moore's character.

I thought at one point that she was teasing Moore ---she saw Moore's confusion and embarrassment -- and that very regret/shyness is what made Moore "sweet". After all, Moore had fulfilled her requirements, she had successfuly made a son/heir and now had a daughter on the way. Kitty was barren, though more experienced/practiced than Moore. Kitty seemed less sexually repressed -- red lips, low, cleavage-revealing dress, so I think Kitty liked the kiss, just didn't let it become a "thing", for Moore to dwell on. After all Kitty was facing
