Why didn't LAURA want her husband to...
... tell RICHIE about how they had met? Is it because he starts talking about how he ALREADY had plans for their future? She doesn't want to be reminded that her life isn't about what SHE wants?

shareI think it has a lot to do with what you said, yes. Also I think the story is too emotionally difficult for her to hear because she and her husband see the situation so differently. Her husband presents it as an idea of their happiness, whereas for her it was anything but.

There isn't always a reason for depression. Sometimes a person's brain chemicals become imbalanced. Sometimes it runs in families. It's also possible the pregnancy hormones had something to do with it.
Kitty's illness was meant to be a catalyst for Laura's breakdown. We don't find out what happened to her because it wasn't pertinent to the story. What was important was how it affected Laura.
Hello? Cobra Bubbles? Aliens are attacking my house.
I don't think Laura was depressed. she was unhappy with her life. it wasn't a life she wanted.
from what I remember Laura's husband was her brothers army friend who came from war and wanted to marry her. her family wanted her gone and didn't think anyone else would have her so she basically had little choice- she had to conform to a life she didn't want
I am sure that is enough to make anyone depressed. I don't think Laura had a medical condition I think her life was not her own and she was unhappy living a life she never wanted to desired or brought her any fulfilment
... and she was unhappy living a life she never wanted to desired or brought her any fulfilment I agree with you and it made her very ... depressed. She didn't contemplate suicide to experience a new buzz.🐭
