Changing Perspective...
...I watched the movie last night, after quite a few years, and I remembered what it was like to see the twists in it for the first time.
During the Laura Brown segment, Richie seemed like he was on to Laura. It was pretty...spooky, I guess...the way he was looking at her and reacting to her. Later on when he was shrieking for her when she drove away, leaving him at the neighbor's house, I was wondering what was going on between the two.
Then we cut to 2001 and there's an AIDS-afflicted man named Richard who's an author. Not seeing the connection throughout the movie, I was shocked when Laura turns up after his funeral.
OH...so THAT's why Richie was acting suspicious around his mother as a child.
That's why he was shrieking when he left her at the neighbor's house...she tried to run off on the family before, possibly before she was pregnant with Richie's sister.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
