This movie's offering makes no sense

Think about the better James Bond movies. Look at Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and its sequels. What about 'Return of the Pink Panther' with Peter Sellers? Mr. Bean's original TV show episodes. Have you seen Black Adder, especially the best seasons and episodes?

Have you ever seen a 'bumbling fool that accidentally succeeds', as in 'The Man, Who Knew Too Little' and such?

When you think of everything other movies, TV shows, and even Atkinson's own productions, shows, movies, skits, etc. have to offer..

.. WHAT does this movie offer that you haven't seen in a better and funnier form/way?

If you have seen everything I mentioned up there, then watch this movie, can you tell me what this movie offers that the others don't?

Even the opening gambit is a lot like the openings in many comedy movies, like 'Hot Shots! Part Deux' and such.

Johnny English isn't as clever and verbally hilarious, as Black Adder.

He isn't as funny, quirky, evil, mean, selfish and weird, as Mr. Bean.

He isn't as competent, solid and yet funny and interesting as Austin Powers.

He isn't as good as the 'bumbling fool that thinks they're genius' as Peter Sellers.

He isn't as accidentally funny and fun as Leslie Nielsen with his deadpan delivery and 'accidental mic on' (there's one scene like that as well).

So what's left?

He's like a diluted mix of all of them, but not as good, not as funny, and it just doesn't work.

What would make this movie funny, ACTUALLY funny, would be, if instead of the tired, old cliché of an 'idiotic James Bond-wannabe', if the opening gambit was the actual movie.

Think about it - how funny would that be? How much it would divert everyone's expectations, if he was actually a super competent spy, and the whole movie was like the opening gambit?

That would almost be a like a joke played on the audience, but it would've been worth it.

I guess they didn't have the courage to do something this subversive and amazingly different. We went back to the road MORE traveled, the road gosh-darned TRAMPLED to death, like the horse this movie is beating.

WHAT does this movie have to offer, if you have seen all or even most of what I mentioned in this post?

It makes no sense that this movie was made, unless someone just wanted money. At least they tried something slightly (but not enough) different with the sequel..

Rowan Atkinson is great in Blackadder and such but (and I'm willing to be corrected) all of the Johnny English films seem to come under the heading of "lets pretend to be stupid so that they won't pan the film and so that we don't need to make a proper movie)
