This movie blows!
I think the opening monologue really spells out how terrible this film is when they debate the differences between the word "*beep*" and "*beep*".

shareSo many detractors of Poolhall Junkies have been hounded on this board, just be careful.
I am not young enough to know everything...
Despite what Trev seems to think, I won't hound you about this. It's your opinion that the discussion at the beginning of the movie indicates that the movie is bad.
It's my opinion that it indicates some good writing took place in the creation of the script. Also, considering that the way the movie plays out shows that the characters were just having fun anyway sets the mood for the upcoming scenes.
It's also my opinion that anyone who'd base their opinion of an entire movie on a five-minute scene isn't that interested in the movie to begin with, but I won't hound you about your opinion... };-)
seems a lot like rounders...think about it
shareThat's been covered before, in the thread entitled: "I liked this movie better when it was called Rounders."
So, apparently you finished watching it, and instead of going, "Good movie" or "Bad movie," you thought, "Seems a lot like Rounders," huh?
Maybe I should watch Rounders again...
I don't think you should base an observation like that on the first 5 minutes of the movie either. At first it seemed to me like comedic pander, but when you think about it, it is really how a hustler gets inside someones head. You frustrate them, mix em around a bit so they are easier to work with.
And to the comment that this movie resembles rounders... ok kinda sorta. So what though. Rounders was a swet movie, and so was this. There's hardly ever a very good story that's totally original. Unless perhaps it has actually happened, but that's a whole different thing.
as other people have outlined the actual need for the comedic banter, character impression, plot point etc, i just felt i should add that although you think the 'comedic banter' blows, it is actually an important part of film ask yourself, why was pulp fiction so ground breaking? the dialogue. why was kill bill put in two installations? because the dialogue was so that it was too ong for one, and they didn't wat to cut it.
before spec. fx and violence was possible in film, the pace heavily relied on dialogue, which is now being revived now that people are sick of watching animation etc.
not that im dissing it, but its the way the tend is going now.
same reason why sienfeld was popular, the banter.
