This movie was exactly Rounders using pool instead of cards. From the guy's relationship with a wealthy soon-to-be lawyer with a nice apt who hates his skill to his gettting hurt and shady underworld types. The douchebag friends, the final showdown, etc. I didn't mind the movie, thought it was alright but it was clearly a rip-off.
shareI love this movie, but it is a rip of Rounders. I was just talking to one of my friends about this the other night. I love Rounders and PHJ. Actually, any time I watch one of them, I have to watch the other. It's like peanut butter and jelly or bullets and guns.

I had never seen Rounders and when I saw this post I went out and rented it because I love this movie so I thought I would give that a try. While I agree that it is largely the same movie I didn't like Rounders at all. I hated Worm so much I wanted to stab something and there wasn't one memorable speech in the whole film for me. So while Poolhall Junkies may be a rip off I found it a lot more enjoyable.
shareRounders is a far better movie but, Poolhall Junkies was actually written in like 92-93 it just took a while to get funding and company to make it.
