Similarities between Man Facing Southeast and K-PAX

1) A man/patient who claims to be from another planet in a psychiatric hospital.
2) He's helping the other patients.
3) His psychiatrist takes big interest in the patient and is determined to convince him of his delusions.
4) The patient's ability to affect large groups of people emotionally -bluebird scene in K-Pax / -9th symphony scene in MFS.
5) His psychiatrist invites him to the outside world which leads to a conflict.
6) The psychiatrist's detached relationship with his son. unwilling to call his son in K-Pax / sitting by the phone while his son speaks to his answering machine.
and the list goes on..

Tho both movies may have their own take on the subject.. It's undeniable that the newest version "K-Pax" had to have been based on the original Man Facing Southeast.
Then of course I was shocked to hear that even tho the original artist sued the plagiarism, The claim was denied.
They must have not investigated enough. The fact K-Pax doesn't even credit the source is scandalous.

Some guys defenind K-Pax said "The author of K-PAX could show he had been working on the book before the release of Man Facing Southeast. "

The original film was released 9 years before the novel, and 15 years before the movie. K-Pax was a ripoff (and a bad ripoff, to make it worse), it wouldn't be the first time Hollywood do this, specially when the authors are not powerful enough to get their rights respected.

This went to court. Do you have inside information?

God you are a colossal moron just because the book wasn't published till 1995 doesn't mean he wasn't working on it before that crap movie.

Come one man, the movie appeared NINE YEARS before the book!!

What is the diference with any other plagiarist claiming he was 'working on a book' after being caught plagiarizing a movie released almost A DECADE EARLIER?

How come plagiarist be fought, if any plagiarist will claim to be 'working before the original work was produced? could you explain it, please?

reply

Well seeing as the lawsuit was withdrawn he provided adequate proof, so stop being such a *beep* pathetic fanboy. Unless you're a writer which I am keep your mouth shut.

Would this be the first time the 'winner' wins without having the right on his/her/it side?

How many times corporations win lawsuits, screwing up inventors in patent trials, just because they have more financial muscle than the individual creative mind?

the storyline could be of the same movie:

HOMBRE MIRANDO AL SUDESTE
A new patient mysteriously appears in a psychiatric ward. He claims to come from another planet to study humans and their behavior. The alien is gentle but criticizes humans for their harsh treatment of each other. The assigned psychiatrist is himself unhappy, and affected by the patient's insight. But he is ordered to treat the patient according to institutional procedure.

K- PAX
Prot is a patient at a mental hospital who claims to be from a far away Planet. His psychiatrist tries to help him, only to begin to doubt his own explanations.
