To me it's clear there is no right or wrong answer to whether Kevin Spacey was (or was temporarily inhabited by) an alien or not. The writers have intentionally supplied plenty of augments for and against, and the whole point in this story (disregarding any other books that came after) is to make you think about it and discuss it, and to think about the other messages in there too. For example, the importance of making the most of family and avoiding regrets, which is why the doctor patched things up with his estranged son at the end.

To me it is very clear, Prot is an alien from K-Pax and the catatonic body found after he left was the human that he was keeping alive. It may be subtle but not vague.

What in the movie might allow you to believe otherwise?

There are many lines of reasoning for both, if you read through this board you will see them all. The movie was of course intentionally vague, if it hadn't been it would have shown him just walking out of a space ship or something. The point I am making is that they put a spin on every one of the reasons so it could be explained either way. That was their intention. If you asked one of the writers they would say "it's up to you to decide."

That poster never said what they believe or didn't believe.

And the film was beautifully ambiguous, to keep us deducing on both fronts. Vague indeed, as the OP said; there is nothing set in stone to solidify either one. There are factors that make the case for each, convincingly.

I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way
