After the initial world, in the castle, you get teleported to Mario's home, on an island. But I can't find a way to get OFF the island. Am I missing something, or is there a glitch in the Wii Virtual Console version?
shareI think you have to go back to the castle first before being allowed to continue; Toad asks you to rescue the princess.

shareYou should just able to walk to it, it's on the left, the only other place you can go. It might be called Vista or something since I remember it was like a hill. If you can't then maybe it is some kind of glitch, make sure you talk to Toad first though.
