Very funny racial jokes
There's a big difference between racism where it is meant, and assumed to be true, such as certain prejudices, upheld and executed in daily life.
As long as we know they are "stereotypes", and we can laugh about them, it is actually a very healthy thing. Mr. Lawrence does not make fun of white people, as much as he does african-americans, by laying it extra thick on the stereo-types. It's a form of self-reflection, which all races and nations should do, as it actually helps see that we're all shallow pitiful creatures, nobody is holy.
I could get into the serious racial issues the US just can't seem to shake, for a good reason by the way (am definitely pro affirmative action (theory), though criticize some of its implementation. Here we call it "positive-discrimination", to compensate all those in socially less priviledged conditions, so to prevent poverty being passed down from generation to generation, without focusing on race, but social class. Here most of them will be immigrants, there most of them will be african-americans, but it doesn't exclude others in similar situations, since it's not a race thing, but social class).
I much rather take this light note and say that I liked this movie, and I know what I am talking about because I am not biased:
I was born white and now I'm black. How you ask? Just like Michael Jackson did, except you take his medication not orally, but ... take it the other way up. ;-)
Lighten up you guys. This was as dumb or funny as naked-gun, with the INTENTIONALLY thickend up the racial (cultural, actually) stereotypes. These are not the bad kind of movies. It is those where it is dont much more subtly, and isn't made fun of, but made to look 'realistic', where the criminals are always the black guys, or latinos or whatever.. those serve prejudices much more, than poking fun at your own background. America has always been too racist. Before, they were discriminated on their race, now they are taught to celebrate their race (racial-pride), but in my opinion just as wrong, because you keep focusing on race. And that's the wrong thing to focus on. We must celebrate our likeness, not our difference, unless they are talents. Be proud of what you accomplish, not of what you were born like. Seesh.
