Can it really work that quickly? I mean *poke* and you're instantly paralyzed/relieved of pain/whatever?

Gee d'ya think? There's nothing wrong with a little curiosity, acupuncture is afterall, recognized by the American Medical Association. I was just curious if anyone had any expertise on the subject and knew if it had the potential to work as quickly in the real world as it does in this movie.
