This movie would have been better......

If Bridget Fonda wasn't the damsel-in-distress prostitute. Why couldn't she have been Jet Li's partner in the and be part of the police force? Also, why did she want to come to France, anyway?

Someone else posted the link to an interview with Bridget Fonda on this board, in which she explains why she wanted to work with Besson, etc. The link was

I did find her good - actually one of the more convincing prostitutes on film, but she would have been better as an agent!

She came to France with Richard. She was having a hard time in North Dakota being an unwed single mother. Richard talked her into moving with her and I guess when you from a small town in N.D., alone and pregnant, and a handsome, smooth-talking French guy (and YES, these men *can* talk) who impresses you with the stories and promises of a charmed life in Paris, you may just take the chance and go.

Also, Jet Li did not want to work with amateurs. Fonda couldn't even find a good spot on the street to hook, or a place to piss...how could she have been his partner?

I agree with the top poster about the damsel-in-distress thing; i thought she was whiney and annoying. I liked when she head-butt that fat hooker though.
