Bad ass martial arts film

This was a bad ass martial arts film. I wasn't watching it for the plot but for the action. I wish more movies like this would come out. Luc Besson is one of my favorite directors of all time, : the professional

Agree with both posters. This film gets top marks for the unmatched convincing badassery of both Li and Karyo, and the absence of bullcrap. Karyo has no equal in the part of the evil, ruthless villain. Li is in absolute top martial arts form, also conveying superbly a complete dedication of his character to his job. This matches perfectly Li's own dedication to his craft. The supporting players are also excellent, notably the wonderful Kwouk, but also all the others.

I thought KOD was a great action movie, one of the best of the past decade. Obviously, the fight scenes were the bread and butter of the film, and they delivered. Beyond that, one of the more surprisingly appealing aspects was Jet Li's charming chemistry with Bridget Fonda. They really only have two extensive scenes where they interact, but it gives the film enough of a human element to bolster the action.

As for the plot, it wasn't great (in fact, it's full of holes) but it did what it needed to do, which is pit Jet Li's Liu Juan in a do-or-die situation where he has to fight against every corrupt cop in Paris.
