Just Noticed.
Just watched this again yesterday for the dozenth and I'm not sure how it slipped past me before but for the type of film that it is there is very little dialogue. There's necessary exposition in certain scenes but much of it is quite minimal.
That and during a lot of the action, specifically the fight scenes the musical score is considerably quiet. Most fight scenes like these we're used to them having bigger bombastic orchestral encouragements but here for the most part there's simply lighter bass prodding. The struggling of the actors, their voices and breath. Amazing.
Friedkin's just one of those directors that balances the best of Hollywood concept and artistic sensibility.
You know why the chicken crossed the road? Because the road crossed the chicken.
