Questions...

I watched this on TV last night and, whilst I enjoyed it, I did wonder at some of the scenes...

When Tommy Lee Jones arrives at the scene of the murdered hunters, he takes off his jacket and leaves it on a tree branch. He then tells the FBI to give him two days to track the killer and heads into the woods without a jacket.
Wouldn't an expert on outdoor survival want to go prepared for a night without shelter? In fact he returns to the FBI office after catching the guy and STILL has no jacket.

When the FBI cordon off the scene of the crashed van,why do they allow TV crews and traffic within about six inches of the crash site?

When Jones finds Del Toro sitting in the room upstairs in his girlfriends house, why does the guy wait until he's facing a gun before jumping out of the window? Why didn't he leave when the FBI arrived?

How come the helicopters didn't spot the smoke from the fire that was used to make the knife?

I know it's only a movie but some scenes just didn't make sense....

1) Tommy Lee went into the woods without food, tent, weapon, or matches. He may have wanted to go in unclothed as shirt and pants can be restrictive in a fight to the death, so wearing a jacket wasn't even a consideration, if it got bad enough he probably fashioned one from tree bark and spit. Besides he's from Texas, home of Audie Murphy, Walker Texas Ranger, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

2) Hollywood is fond of portraying the FBI as inept.

3) Del Toro's character was skilled and semi suicidal. This combination allowed him the luxury.

4) Again, it's Hollywood's FBI.
