I know that the opening lines, spoken by Johnny Cash, are lines from a Bob Dylan song. I was wondering what their significance was to the story. I haven't thought too deeply on it, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts?
i would say it's very handily hammered home in the end scene, with bonham burning hallam's tortured letters precipitating the end narration, "god said to abraham, 'kill me a son'." i won't bother typing out my interpretation of it, but i'd just suggest watching it again, it's certainly a worthy flick.
hallam writes bonham that he is like a father to him. bonham trained him to be what he is. at the end bonham is forced to KILL hallam. by the way,if you're not embarrased by now,you should be. read between the lines,m'kay?
