Unless it means that Hallam was Bonham's son, I don't get the significance of that Bible passage.

Wow... I'm glad I understand that now, the film finally makes more sense.
I think that Friedkin's films are often misunderstood and therefore taken as comedies, or simply seen as terrible. (The Exorcist, Bug)
That Moses thing is a stretch. I think this was trying to add more depth to a film that was simply a good chase movie. The Abraham thing is even a stretch for a movie that's not all that deep.
shareive wondered that too. only thing i can think of is maybe he thought of him like a son, since he was his student. "kill me a son" i think its just a sacrificial passage. but im no expert on the bible.
