When the hunter asks to see his weapon he pulls it out and throws his knife a great distance underhand like a bullet in air> Is this posible to throw from that distance into a tree strait in the air?

with a well balanced knife and practice with combat knife throwing,which is without rotation, more like a spear throw; an underhanded throw is entirely possible. He is obviously very good at this, and threw it with a good deal of force.

I don't think those were hunters. They were "sweepers" governtment guys sent to kill him.

anyone know what kind of scopes they had on their rifles? they looked like they were mirror scopes, in cassegrain configuration, and not the usual refracting scope.

Yes, it is possible. One of Tom Brown Jr.'s assistant instructors made the throw shortly before the scene was filmed.
