Terrible and most obvious cuts

What happened to Friedkin, fall asleep at the wheel on this film? Sloppy movie making at it's best. I was really expecting much, much more from a Jones/Del Toro/Friedkin production....

Poor editing overall, but man these two really stuck out.:

One towards the end of the movie when Del Toro dips the fiery-hot(orange spray-painted) metal knife he just hammered out into the creek, then there's a sloppy cut to a cooled off blackened metal knife which he pulls back out of the creek.

A second very poor cut was when during the last knife fight Jones cuts Del Toro's upper leg, then there's a sloppy cut showing an obvious squib and then what looks like another slash of the knife across his thigh.

C'mon Friedkin, howz about a Special Edition widescreen release of Sorcerer instead?????

I only noticed the first cut you mentioned. I was hoping that the cut was supposed to be that way, so the viewer would figure that it took more than a second to cool the knife, and realized that it was a "time-cut." Who knows, though?

There's another cut like that in the first scene with the hunters (around 15:40 on the DVD). Hallam's running away from the camera and he disappears for a second and then reappears further away.

These things don't bother me though. I think it works for the movie.
