Used to dismiss it, but it's growing on me...

When I first saw this in theaters I, along with almost everybody else, found it flawed. And I suppose it still is in some ways. But even so, I just watched it for the third time and now I'm starting to like the sort of silent, complex and uncertain characters, their unclear reasons for acting the way they do.

Whearas I first found the Abraham/Isaac metaphor to be far fetched, now I like the Freudian Father/Son conflict. How the son draws out the father to stop him, how Jones is struggling with accepting this role, and how the Del Toro character is actually the tragic one.

Plus aspects like critique of civilization, the ambiguity of Del Toros point of view and the problem of violence and what it does to those who live with it make for some interesting layers.

Anyway there is something about it that I really like.
