Did Johnny Cash do the narration specially for this film or is it taken from somewhere else?

I am unsure, however, they are lines from Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited"

Yes, Johnny Cash lent his voice as the narrator. And the lyrics are from Dylan's above mentioned song. On the commentary the director goes into more detail about some bits of info like this...
