"Tracking muddy wellies across a white carpet" seemded ot be about the total of the so called tracking skills, all the other hundred or so police men on the scene seemed to miss great big muddy foot prints on pristine white floors, or big lumps of moss missing, this move just didn't work at all for me. I had an untrained dig that would track me through a crowd by scent now that is impressive, but seeing great big foot prints on your mums white shag pile doesnt do it for me.

a laboured work man like movie, running through the usual police stereo type shame as i like both the actors.

In fact why didnt they just use a dog and be done with it, no salary no pension just a biscuit and a leg to hump

I believe that has been stated by both William Friedkin and Tom Brown Jr. that the tracks in the film have been "amplified" for the simple purposes of being noticeable by the general public (for whom the film was made).

The film was not meant to be a lesson about tracking, but rather a mainstream action-thriller. Tom Brown Jr. can detect tracks that most people cannot even hope to see, and showing genuine, "invisible" tracks on the big screen wouldn't deliver much entertainment to anyone, I would imagine.

Concur. Real tracks are difficult to photograph.
