This was a good love letter to the show

I played Scooby Doo 2 on Netflix cuz I never saw it as a kid. It was obvious it was cheaply written, cheaply directed, and going through the motions of trying to recapture this film. I turned it off after like fifteen minutes.

I played this one and was pleasantly surprised to see this film still held up even though I haven't seen it in like a decade. I love how it referenced so many things from the original cartoon and even challenged them. (Daphne always getting kidnapped but now in this movie she wants to prove herself, Velma calling out Fred's BS, including Scrappy Doo but acknowledging how annoying everyone found him)

The subtle adult humor......monsters with a mystery that isn't immediately obvious.....the little gags straight out of the cartoon. (Shaggy jumping into Scooby's arms, the Scooby snacks...)

Damn this movie is great.

The first movie was my favorite when I was a kid, and so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I remember when I saw it at a drive-in movie theater and I remember buying a VHS copy. The deleted scenes were after the credits.

If I hadn't first seen it when I was 10 years old, I probably would have regarded it in the same way I did its sequel ... not very good (though I think the first is way better).
