Always avoided watching this movie because of Uma

I've never been able to stand Uma Thurman, don't know why, I don't know her, she's never done anything to me personally, maybe it's because she had the nerve to try to play Mrs. Peel in the Avengers and I was madly in love with Diana Rigg in that role when I was ten.

So I never watched this movie or the sequel until this week when I was home during a snow storm, watched both movies pretty much back to back actually. All I can say is that Uma Thurman did a pretty good acting job in both movies and that the movies didn't suck.

Faint praise maybe, and I generally like Tarentino movies, they're kind of like car wrecks, it's hard to look away. I just don't think either of the Kill Bill movies were his best work, or close to his best work. They had the usual violence porn that all his movies have, maybe more then some but less than others...

Not sorry I didn't watch them earlier, and I'm still not crazy about Uma but I can at least stand her now. So there's that...

There are always people you can't stand, I have a few of them, and it's almost impossible to watch the movie or TV show when they're on screen. Uma is almost one of those, but in the end, as disgusting as she is, I don't get as big a feeling of repulsion from her, so I can sort of watch a movie she's in.

Part of the reason is probably that I had never seen her before I saw the Seinfeld episode where they got 'Uma's phone number', and the bodybuilder guy says 'I hope she's good-lookin'', and the audience is supposed to just know that the 'Uma' is good-looking indeed.

So I expected her to look like some kind of exotic, asianlike stunner that you sometimes (but rarely) see.

Then I am blasted with some -no offence- bulgy-eyed, oldhag-looking fish-face with distorted lips and big nose - the contrast between my imagined 'Uma' and the actual 'Uma' was galactic in proportions.

'bulgy-eyed, oldhag-looking fish-face with distorted lips and big nose' - Yep, exactly. And then it is so ridiculous to listen to people in Kill Bill praising her for her "beauty"...

reply

I read somewhere that Tarantino thinks she's really beautiful, and he has called her his "muse." Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I personally don't think she's all that good looking. I don't find her unattractive, but as for beauty... She wouldn't even make my top 100.

Geez, you guys are a bunch of assholes lol.

I know this is FOUR years old but damn watch this F'n movie now.

The first time I saw Uma Thurman was in The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen. Guessing she was around 20. She was absolutely stunning in that. I suppose her looks changed and faded a little bit not long after then, dropped a point or two. But to this day even as an old woman she's still out of reach for every mom's-basement-dwelling troglodyte on this forum.

~EDIT~

Speaking of Uma's looks, here's a bit from the original script that didn't make it into the movie. It's right after Bill orders Elle Driver to abort her mission to kill comatose Beatrix in the hospital, before she leaves the room:

ELLE

Ya know now I get a better look
at you, you're not so damn pretty.
Yeah, you got that Venus thing
going for you but... ya know, now
I get a closer look at you you're
kinda weird looking. You got this
big nose that doesn't fit with the
rest of your face, your eyes are
two different sizes. And look
at your skin... My complexion is way
better than yours --

The Bride does one of her motor reflex functions...She
SPITS in Elle's face.

ELLE

Oh no you didn't.

Elle springs up, wipes the spit off her cheek and looks
down at The Bride in her bed.

She grabs The Bride by the front of her hospital gown...

...Yanks her up to a sitting position...

...And PUNCHES her hard in the face.

ELLE

If you ever take your ass out of this
goddamn bed for as long as you fuckin
live, I will beat it into the ground,
bitch!
